Baby birds can be gently placed back into their nest if you can see it and reach it. It is a myth that a human’s scent on a baby bird will prevent the mother from caring for it. Most birds, with the exception of vultures, don’t have a good sense of smell. As young birds are learning to fly, they will spend some time on the ground. It’s best to let them practice and keep your pets inside to protect the young birds.

Please don’t reach for a lighter or harsh chemical! Despite what you may have heard, you can not make a tick let go. If you try to burn it off, or apply bleach, gasoline or nail polish remover, you run the risk of injuring yourself and/or causing the tick to empty the contents of its body into your skin. Simply grab the tick as close to your skin as possible either with your fingers or tweezers and pull straight out. Clean the monitor the bite. If you begin to feel flu-like symptoms or notice a red ring around the bite, see a doctor. See the Chicks and Tiggers blog for more information.
