[title size=”2″]Largemouth Bass[/title]
The largemouth bass is a bass found throughout the rivers and lakes of eastern North America. It is one of the largest bass, which has made it a popular target of anglers throughout the region. It is also known as the bigmough bass, bucketmouth bass, openmouth bass, hog, hawg, lineside, bigmouth trout, green trout, pond trout, lake trout, chub, greenbass, Oswego bass, and Walshman. Its variety of names is derived from its importance in freshwater fishing. Adults can range from 12 to 30 inches long and weigh up to 20 pounds, with an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years. The species is characterized by its large mouth and its upper jaw placement positioned in front of its eye. It has a spiny but soft dorsal fin containing deep notches between its 9 to 11 spines in the anterior and 12 to 14 rays in the posterior. The largemouth bass has unique coloring that makes it easily identifiable. Along its dorsal area it is a greenish-brown that helps it blend in with its environment. Other parts of its body are a light greenish color, with a black band of blotches and a white underside. The spawning season of the largemouth bass is during April and May and is reliant on water temperature between 63 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. This is another popular catch for fisherman in the Ozark region.
