[title size=”2″]South Creek Greenway[/title]
South Creek Greenway runs through the middle of Springfield, Missouri on an east to west axis. It is undoubtedly an urban trail that is heavily used not just for recreation, but also as a route for pedestrians to get around town. Its main trailhead is at McDaniel Park, located at National and Sunset, and it connects many Springfield landmarks including the Japanese Gardens and Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park. There are also several neighborhoods adjacent to South Creek Greenway. While the difficulty level is low along most sections of the trail, its western end (west of Nathanael Greene Park) becomes more difficult, confronting hikers and bikers alike with several large hills. Luckily, food, water and restrooms are never too far away as the trail takes you right by numerous stores and restaurants.
South Creek Greenway takes visitors by countless natural elements of interest, including native prairie restoration areas, two parks, a creek, a small lake, and a wetland that was
recently restored by the Ozarks Chapter Audubon Society. Make sure you don’t miss the spectacular views from the Kansas Expressway Overpass and the serene section of trail
that runs alongside Wilson’s Creek.
